Craigslist has done a great job in making the process of posting an ad as painless as possible. Though the process is largely the same for every category, there are variations and we won't be demonstrating every possible scenario with this tutorial. For this demonstration, our example listing will be in the 'apts/housing' category.

Post To Classifieds

First, ensure you are in the correct city/state (this is listed at the top of the screen as well as the address bar). After checking your location, click on the 'post to classifieds' link (displayed in the screenshot below).

Category

For this tutorial, we will be using the 'housing offered' category. The following two links are specific for an apartment rental, though the process is largely the same regardless of the category.

Add Info

This is the good part. Here you add all the vital information for your listing (including your Listing Doctor code from our ad maker). Be sure to double-check your email address and, after adding the required fields, paste the Listing Doctor code to the 'Posting Description' field.

Verify Content

This next page will give you a sample of the ad before it is published. You can make changes by using the 'Edit' button. After checking the ad, click on the 'Continue' button. Note: If you don't see the Listing Doctor ad you created, click the 'Edit' button and repeat the previous step.

Terms of Service

Feel free to read the terms and conditions of Craigslist. There's nothing particularly unusual about this agreement (not to mention your acceptance of it is a required step to add a listing).

Captcha

The 'captcha' (a.k.a. Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart). Is just here to make sure you aren't a computer program designed to spam Craigslist. The instructions for passing the captcha test are simple: Duplicate the distorted text in the field (these are sometimes hard for a human to read, but even more so for a computer).

Email Sent

Craigslist sent you an email! In it are the remaining instructions for publishing your ad. Read them carefully and happy posting!
